Shontelle & Joshua's Wedding at Sails Resort Port Macquarie

THE PROPOSAL

Joshua proposed on the side of the mountain at perisher, after chasing me down and cutting me off on the snow board, because I didn’t stop where he asked me to. I bruised my tailbone and was cranky, he was asking me to stand, I was telling him off and there he was with a ring nervously trying to propose, I was a little stunned, and then he went to do his proposal and dropped the ring! He quickly picked it up and said sh#t put it on! So he forgot to ask!

He ended up officially asking on the way down to Jindabyne in the car. After he had already called his parents to tell them we are engaged. Luckily I love him and was going to say yes anyway!

LOCATION

We chose Sails as it was stunning with lovely views. Everyone was very accommodating and helpful throughout the whole day.

IF YOUR WEDDING HAD A THEME SONG WHAT WOULD IT BE?

I’ve had the time of my life..

ANY CHALLENGING MOMENTS DURING WEDDING PLANNING?

The main stress was the guest list and seating chart, mainly due to cancellations last minute.

WHAT ABOUT DURING THE CEREMONY?

The wind! The ceremony location actually had to be moved to the other side of sails. I constantly had my veil blowing over my face, which had me laughing during the ceremony. The photographer actually got a picture of it wrapped around my head! But everything else was perfect

TRADITIONS HONOURED

Something old and something new, something borrowed and something Blue. My family have done it for generations so felt that was important to continue. I also kept the dress a secret from my husband and most guests until the day for the wow factor. We both stayed in separate places the night before to make it a little bit more special when we saw each other on the wedding day.

MOMENTS TO REMEMBER..

I was most looking forward to the ceremony and walking out to the point at Sails, saying I do and hearing Joshua’s vows (as he has never written down his feelings).

My favourite part was when my husband sang a song, as a surprise for me, (he is not a singer) he sang, I want to grow old with you from the wedding singer. (My favourite movie). It was the sweetest thing he’s ever done. Very close second was his vows that he wrote himself which made me cry, they were beautiful.

WE SPLURGED ON..

The photographer, even though they were reasonably priced, we got the deluxe package with their photo booth which was so much fun. Also the venue, by doing a sit down dinner instead of a cocktail dinner.

WE SAVED ON..

The cars, we got them for free by a local dealer through my dad’s business, which was amazing. Also we saved on the bridesmaids dresses, $99 each, from Showpo.
