Local Wedding || Brooke & Ryan
THE COUPLE
Brooke and Ryan were married at the wonderful Long View Farm with 90 of their guests enjoying the occasion. Brooke told us all about it….
THE PROPOSAL
When I say that I was not expecting this proposal, that would be an understatement. It was almost Christmas and things were crazy at work. Ryan woke up, and dragged me out of bed to go and ‘get a coffee. So scruffy and quickly thrown together, we headed out. Ryan mentioned we should stop at Gan Gan lookout on the way. When there, I was in la la land looking out at the view while Ryan was busily tying a gorgeous little timber ring box to our dogs collar. Naively I saw it and opened it, looked over to see him down on one knee. Our proposal was grounded, relaxed, and perfectly us. It was a moment we will remember forever.Â
FAVOURITE PART OF PLANNING
Venue hunting! We really enjoyed this part of the planning process. We treated each venue inspection like a little holiday. We would go camping nearby, stop at a local winery or check out the small country towns around.
AN IMPORTANT LOVE SONG
House of my soul- Langhorne Slim. This was our first dance song, however, this song also brings back so many happy memories of dancing around our kitchen practising silly dance moves and ridiculously unachievable dips for our first dance.
WE SPLURGED ON..Â
Flowers! This is definitely normally something couples hold back on, but for us, we fell in love with the amazing home/locally grown flowers from Little Orange Farm. We wanted our wedding to burst with colour and thanks to Rachel, it certainly did.
WE SAVED ON..Â
A photo booth! Instead, we asked our amazing photographer to complete a challenge with us. We got our MC to announce that we had one song to run around our reception with our photographer and take a photo with every group. In our thank you cards, we printed the photos from the photographer and sent them in the cards. This way, our guests got a hard copy memory of the night, and we saved a lot on the costs of polaroids or photo booths.Â
PLANNING WINS
Going against the grain with a non-traditional dress. From the moment we started wedding planning, I knew that a traditional wedding dress wasn’t for me. I fell in love with my dress from the moment I saw it! The way I felt in it was so special and I could visualise myself walking down the aisle in it. I knew what I wanted our wedding to feel like and I had this beautiful image in my head. At times, it was difficult to share with others that picture in my mind. I am so glad I stuck to what my heart was telling me. I adore my dress and the colour it brought to our day. Not only that, I can wear it again! Win-win!
FAVOURITE MOMENT
Standing by the river, looking at each other, and reading our vows was definitely the highlight. Breathing in that moment was our favourite part!
TRADITIONS KEPT
A ring blessing- During the ceremony, our wedding bands were passed to our parents and grandparents to hold and place a blessing into. Now we have the honour of carrying these blessings with us every day. We also displayed photos of our grandparent’s wedding photos on the day. This was such a special touch and a great way to bring it back to family, which is something incredibly important to us.Â
